Liking /v/ isn't that different from liking /a/ or /hm/. They all have gimmicky memes, and cliché and shallow tripusers. The only real difference is that /a/ - Anime & Manga came out in 2003 while /v/ - Video Games came out in 2004, making the former less of a target for new and inexperienced posters.

And this is while people from /jp/ - Japan/General and /mlp/ - Pony are hated or shunned, simply because they're "too hard to understand". While in reality it's just that their topics are original and their posts elaborate. The users of the two later boards are more popular in Japan than here, perhaps because a native japanese person has an advantage when it comes to tolerance and understanding of the original material those boards are tied to. To like /v/ all you need to understand is that it's "a badass board who controls meme creation".

While I like the topics and general feel of video games, I'd like to point out, that among /v/, /hm/ and perhaps /vg/, /v/ is the least developed, least interesting and least video games related board. Not to mention its userbase is the least elaborate and engaging of all.

I fixed it for you.

/v/ has much wider appeal and draws in a much larger userbase these days. It's not like 9 years ago when people who went to 4chan would invariably have interests in both video games and anime and the fun part of it was that it was different to a lot of video game communities.

/v/ has gone the other way and basically become another GameFAQs, Neogaf, IGN, etc.

Also, /v/ is one of the least liked boards on all of 4chan because it is one of the most notable for shitposting.
